Portuguese Perdigueiro Dog picture
The Perdigueiro dog, or Portuguese Pointer, arose from the ancient Iberian hunting dogs, and his presence in Portugal is traceable to the early twelfth century. During the eighteenth century, many English families established in the region of Oporto and doing business on wine production came to know this Portuguese hunting breed.

A few
Perdigueiro dogs were taken to England, where they played an important role in the origin of the English Pointer. In the nineteenth century, however, this wonderful dog breed was endangered. It wasn't until the 1920's that some breeders made an effort to recover this pure breed dog.

The
Portuguese Perdigueiro is a medium-sized dog, nicely proportioned and strong. He has a great agility and quick mental reflexes, and he loves sharing his master's pleasures. His coat is short and thin, in colours yellow and brown, unicoloured or with white markings. His ears are long and hanging and his eyes oval-shaped and large, preferably in dark colour.

The
Portuguese Perdigueiro has an extraordinary flair and is always alert and ready for hunting. He is easy to train and his very affectionate nature and lively temperament make him a remarkably good companion for children and a faithful helpmate to the hunting sportsman.

Thanks to his close and strong bond to his master, educating a
Portuguese Perdigueiro dog is an easy task.

Regarding coat's care, a few brush strokes once or twice a week is sufficient, but if you would like to learn a little more about your puppy's or dog's education and care, then read Barry's tips.
